As of July 1, 2009 personal checks are no longer accepted for sled background check applications. If you chose to mail in your request only money orders, business check, certified check and cashier checks are accepted. The online process of obtaining a South Carolina background search is simple to do with easy to follow directions. For an exact match to be obtained through the criminal history records the subjects first and last name and the subject’s date of birth is required. In the cases of common names such as “John Smith” or “Jane Jones” false positives can result and special processing may be required. Whenever possible it is suggest that a subject’s social security number be included. This allows for a search by social security number to be provided. This fee is non-refundable and no fee will be reimbursed for unsuccessful searches or if a printer fails to print the results.

In pursuant to South Carolina statutes any sled background check that is for the possible employment of a substitute teacher or full-time teacher is done without charge regardless if employment occurs or not.
